Got it done in January/ Get it done in February

I have had a productive January even with being sick the first week.  Here were my plans for January:

1. I want to finish my Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt
2. I want to get the binding on my Orca bay quilt from last year so that I can enter it in the Creative Arts division of the Stock show and Rodeo.
3. I want to finish a challenge that we were given at our quilt group Christmas party
4. My plan for Christmas gifts for our daughter and daughter in law is to give them a table runner for each month. I hope to make two each month instead of making them all at Christmas.

I got all of this done plus some.  I also made a baby quilt, table cloth, a block for our block of the month, and cut out a quilt for a retreat I am going to in February.
My Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt pieced.  Sorry the picture is bad it was  sunny and windy the day I took the picture.
Orca Bay all finished and ready to enter into the fair.
This was my challenge from my quilt group.  We picked three fat quarters not knowing what we were going to make with them and then had to pick a pattern ( we each brought 3 unwanted fat quarters and a pattern we weren't going to use) and then we were told we had to use the fabric in that pattern.
My table runners for our daughter and daughter in law.
My block for the block of the month.  I doing wool hand applique

This baby quilt was not on my list but I need it for a shower on Feb. 9th.

For February I hope to complete-
1.  Two table runners for February for our Daughter and Daughter in Law for Christmas
2. Finish a Friends and Flowers quilt that I started on a retreat last year
3.  Make a quilt for my nephew's high school graduation
4.  Catch up on my back to Square One blocks  and do my Christmas block for my quilt group.

I hope I can get this done.  I am going to a 3 day retreat at the end of the month so there may be some power sewing those days!   I love setting these goals for the month, it seems to help me get it done.

Design Wall 1-28-13

I had to make a baby quilt for a shower in a couple weeks.  I used a panel and added some patchwork.  Don't you love panels, they are so easy to make a quilt fast .  This quilt is for one of my ex-students that is now a teacher and expecting her first baby.  Wow, time has really flown, I went to the baby shower for her mother when she was expecting her.  I hope she like it.....

I also have this block on my wall.

My quilt group is making this as a block of the month and I am doing mine in wool applique.

It is a beautiful day here in West Texas ( a little windy, but warm) so I am off for a walk.  Have a great Monday!

Fabric Stash report- week 4

I notice I didn't report on my stash last week so will include that in this report.  I have been busy the last couple weeks.  I made 2 table runners, finished my challenge for our quilt group and made a baby quilt.  No wonder I am tired!  The weather last week was finally warm and that allowed me to do some walking and spend some time outside.  I am really ready for spring, I don't know how those of you that live in the North do it!   I am guessing that I used 8 yards in the last 2 weeks.  Here are my totals.Today will be spent cleaning the sewing room, how does it get in such a mess!???

Sock Thursday

I want to learn to knit socks, it is a bucket list thing for me and is in my plan for this year.  I so admire all the talent and all the beautiful socks that I see posted.  My friend, Judy Laquidara at Patchwork Times, is starting a Thursday sock post.  The only requirement is that someone must be wearing the socks.  This morning the baby that I am babysitting had on the cutest socks so she is my model for today. Her socks looked like shoes and socks.  I wish they made those for adults.
Since I have teased you with the cute socks let me show you the rest of the baby.  She is such a sweetie!
Happy Sock Thursday!!

Design Wall Monday Jan 14 2013

I actually have two things on my design wall.  My quilt group had a challenge at our Christmas party.  We had to bring 3 fat quarters and a pattern that we weren't going to use or really wasn't our style any longer. We put them all in a basket and then drew numbers to see what order you could draw from the basket.  I picked three bright fat quarters that were turquoise, pink and purple and then had a paper piece thanksgiving pattern ( this is BEFORE I knew we had to use the fabric and the pattern).  At the end of the night there was an apple core pattern that required a special ruler.  I took the pattern and looked at home and had the ruler.

I am making the apple core as my challenge for the group and the other is a table runner.  I only have the pieces ironed on and need to do the applique.  My goal is to make a table runner each month for our daughter and daughter in law for Christmas gifts next year.  The hard part is deciding what to make.
I am a day late getting this posted because I spent all day trying to upload pictures. I must have solved the problem in my sleep because it went well today.  This week I hope to get the applique done and get another table runner started.

Fabric Stash report - Week 2

This week I finished my Bonnie Hunter mystery, Easy Street ( I counted the fabric last week), put the binding on my Orca Bay quilt ( the Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt from 2011) and started a table runner.  It was a pretty good sewing week considering we are still trying to get well.  My husband goes back to work at our local University tomorrow so I should have "my time" again.   This week I hope to finish one table runner and start another.  I am babysitting 4 days this week .... trade my husband for a 3 month old! A pretty good trade, if you as me!! Here are my numbers for 2013

Fabric Stash Report - Week 1

I think my husband and I have turned the corner on the flu and are getting better!! I feel like I lost a week and now need to make up for it except my body doesn't want to go at that speed . This strain of the flu comes on fast and hits hard!  Yesterday was my first full day in my sewing room.  I am finishing up my Easy Street ( Bonnie Hunter) mystery quilt and can now count all the fabric.  It is amazing how much fabric a scrappy quilt takes.  I went by her estimates at the beginning of the quilt and we knocked out 14 1/4yards.  That is a great start for 2013.  This year I am going to make a real effort to keep up with my numbers and get them posted.  So far in 2013( all 6 days) I haven't purchased any fabric.  In fact I cleaned out my sewing closet and have two boxes to give to my friend Amy.  She has a unique quilt shop in that they buy fabric that you no longer want ( or in my case I give it to her) and they resale it in kits, yardage or in cuts and it is all at a much cheaper price.  She has a cute little shop that is really thriving!
Here are my 2013 numbers so far.
