My Design Wall for 1-16

This is the first panel of 3 in my January UFO #5.  It is hand applique, which I have never done before so it is going very slowly and is a challenge.  I have the pieces ready to applique on panel #2 so maybe next week it will be on my design wall.  I have also worked on my color challenge this week and finished step one of Bonnie Hunter's Orca mystery quilt.  Today I am off to church to hand quilt then to Weight Watchers and if I am lucky I will have the afternoon to sew.  "Sew" long for now.

  1. It is beautiful! And a good think Judy called it's number first so you have a year to finish it!

I am not a patient hand appliquer, hence I don't do much of it. But I think it is beautiful!

    1. Thank you so much. I am not a patient appliquer either but do it during TV time. It may take me a year to finish!

    1. Thank you, this is my first hand applique although I have done some wool applique by hand and really liked that.

    1. Thank you, I bought this kit from a fellow quilter who was moving and put it on my UFO list forcing me to work on it.

  5. Hi Julie. This design wall Monday is a great way to keep going with the sewing.... I love your applique project. The colors are wonderful on that black background. Can't wait to see more.
I've become a "FOLLOWER" of your blog and will visit as often as I can.
    Take care and happy sewing!

    1. I do love design wall Monday. I decided this year that I was going to start a blog so that I could post and be more active. I too love the colors in this project.

  6. I too am a new appliquer, I think you are very brave to start on black-black is so hard to sew on, whether by hand or machine. Keep up the good work.

    1. I am not sure I would have started with black if it had not been a kit. I do like the flowers on the black though. You are so right, stitching is hard to see on black.

  7. Great job on your applique! I love to applique, but it took me a while to feel like I was good at it. Keep working on it, I promise it will get easier!
